Amundön

2020

Expedition 2020.07.07.

Located in the south Gothenburg coast line, the barely one square kilometer large island Amundön rises about 33 meters above the sea level. The red-gray granite that is occupying the majority of the area together with the blackgrey-darkgrey gneiss manifests as a rocky landscape full of steeps and holes, altogether smoothed by the ice during the ice age. Together with coastal meadows, oak forests and rocky beaches, Amundön presents a diverse landscape, almost too perfect to not interact with, or perhaps even intervene with.

In DOMA’s expedition to Amundön, the first etapp in the DOMA ABC project, the artist trio explored ways to get closer to the island’s nature through different interactions with the landscape. By inserting materials and textiles and by using their own bodies, the trio playfully experienced different aspects of ‘the wind, the water and the soil’. The expedition was captured and documented in photo and video, but the essence of the experience was, more than anything else, recorded and saved in their bodily and mental memories.
